An introduction to writing audio drama and creating podcasts with Chris Gregory, founder of the Alternative Stories and Fake Realities Podcast.

Audio drama is a hugely exciting format in which writers can tell expansive and ambitious stories without the need for expensive CGI effects.  Both a wonderful springboard to other forms of scripted drama (TV, film or stage plays) the format is also very much an art form in its own right.  This workshop will take participants through some of the basics of writing for audio drama.

In this 2 hour session you’ll learn about the restrictions and advantages of audio drama. We’ll talk about dialogue and plot devices, the importance of place, writing sound directions and voice notes, working with actors and directors (this will include pre-recorded content from one of the Alternative Stories acting team) honing your script and the importance of table reads.

We’ll end with a very short introduction to podcasting – podcasts are a fantastic platform for sharing your drama productions and some of the most innovative audio drama in the UK today can be heard on podcasts.
